This plant's Genus name has changed from the one mentioned in most guide books.
Bright yellow flower about 2" wide with "pinched" petal tip. The 8 petals look tacked to the center with thread. The center starts off without the tiny flowers so has a "green eye". As the center flowers age, they dry out to brown showing the green base. Petals curl under as the day heats or becomes dark. Lower leaves are 4" long and hairy. Upper leaves are smaller, growing halfway up stalk. Plant grows 2-3 feet high and can be found in large groupings. Eaten by livestock.

Bright yellow flower about 1" wide with golden center and "pinched" petal tip. Hairy leaves are opposite. Upright to sprawling plant grows to about 2 feet tall. Leaves are eaten by deer.

Lyreleaf Greeneyes (Chocolate Daisy, Chocolate Flower) Berlandiera lyrata
This plant smells like milk chocolate. 2" wide flower grow out of a 3/4" wide green velvety pad. The petals appear to be tacked down with red thread and have a "pinched" tip. The petal backs have dark red veins. The center flowers are red each with a yellow spike. Variable shaped leaves are 6"-8" long. Plant grows to about 18" tall. Native Americans may have used this plant to season food.
