Hartweg's Sundrops (Hartweg's Evening Primrose) Calylophus hartwegii
Locally called buttercup, flower is 2"-3" wide, fading to orange as it curls
up. Flowers open late afternoon and fades as the next day gets
hot. Narrow, corrugated pods, 1"-2" long, are called hypanthium, the floral tube with the ovary at its base. Leaves
are highly variable, up to 1 1/2" long. These plants reach about
16" tall and are wider than tall. Some years this plant can cover fields.

Showy Evening Primrose Oenothera grandis
Petals are light yellow to golden and can be bicolor with with a darker yellow center. Sepals are joined and
flare to one side of stem. Leaves are strongly lobed.
