Fuzzy Flowers - Miscellaneous
Asteraceae (Compositae) - Sunflower family
Rabbit-tobacco (Fragrant Cudweed, Fragrant Everlasting) Pseudognaphalium obtusifolium (Gnaphalium obtusifolium)
Loose clusters of fuzzy aromatic white flowers. Each "flower" is
composed mostly of white phyllaries (leafy structures below a
daisy). The actual flowers are tiny and yellow. There are
no ray flowers or ray petals. Crushed leaves smell sweet.
Lanceolate leaves have white hairs on the underside. Multiple
stems from near base are covered in white hairs. Blooms September
to October. Grows to about 2" tall. Plant was used as an
insect repellent in matrices and for books.

Cottonbatting Plant Pseudognaphalium stramineum (Gnaphalium
stramineum)
Terminal clump of flowers with yellow domes, white/yellow bases open to look
like white ray petals. Thick narrow leaves that turn white, held close to main
stem or horizontal, often folded at edges. Thick erect plant, branching
from taproot, some flower clusters from leaf nodes.
