Punicaceae - Pomegranate family
Pomegranate Punica granatum
This bush/tree grows to 25 feet tall but most often more like 12 feet tall. It was introduced into California in 1769 and has naturalized in dryer locations. Flower is 2"-2 1/2" wide and needs hot dry summers to mature. (no fruit photo) This is a double petal variety that is very common outside the older homes of Taylor County.
