Capped Mushrooms - Small

Mushrooms and molds are fungus.  A fungus is not a true plant.  It does not photosynthesize light into a food source.  The structures we see and call mushrooms are the reproductive parts of a fungus that lives underground or under bark.

? Common Name **zm 1** Scientific Name

Small golden-brown mushrooms are about 1" tall.  The surface is smooth with flats on the side.  They seem to prefer cow patties.

? Common Name **zm 2** Scientific Name

Small white mushrooms are 1"-1 1/2" tall.  The surface is frosted.  Cone head splits as it opens then curls over the top to show striped underside.  They seem to prefer cow patties.

? Common Name **zm 3** Scientific Name

Small brown mushrooms are about 1/2" wide.  The surface looks liked it has been baked.  These grew out of the end of a landscape timber at Buffalo Gap Cemetery.

Small cream/brown mushrooms, biggest are 1/2" wide.  Cap is very ribbed.  Cream stem does not have ring.

Small brown mushrooms are about 3/4" wide.  Growing under Ponderosa Pine in the needles.
