Description: Fern frond, in blue/gray mudstone

Close-up of #1 shows frond was fertile with "fruit dots" (spore filled sori)

Description: leaves -- This Genus of tree was very prolific in the southern continents but not found in the northern continents.

Size: 32 mm long

Description: a six sided ovule (seed pod) from a medullosan pteridosperm ( Seed Fern ), petrified in iron.  Pecan-like, it would also have had a soft outer later.  This specimen's size is extraordinary if it is from the Permian.
