Red Harvester Ant Pogonomyrmex barbatus

Worker's bodies about 3/8" long.

Large red ant that forages for seeds and dead insects.  Clears vegetation in a large circle around the entrance to their nest and along foraging trails.  Eaten by Texas Horned Lizard.
